A Canoe, a Collie and a Kooijker

Both dogs had been in the canoe before individually, so I didn't think it was a total impossibility to get them both in at the same time. They didn't exactly jump in with delight but tolerated me lowering them in with only token resistance. Once in they seemed to relax and enjoy looking about them.

We had the wind behind us and reached the island in about 40 minutes.

First a walk round the island to see the tipi tents.

This was our Compact Campsite for the night. Bivvie bag, an airbed, 2 sleeping bags (one silk, one fleece). The canoe as windbreak. Sproet didn't approve of the sleeping arrangements in the dark though, too exposed in his opinion and when the people who were partying at the other end of the harbour sent up chinese lantarns into the sky he ran off to shelter in the reeds and stayed there all night. Rimmer slept at my feet on the pile of old sleeping bags which made the dogseats in the canoe.

Awake at first light (4.45) and by the time the sun came up around 6 we were packed up and on the water again.

The crew ready for disembarking (which is much easier than the other way around as they work with me instead of against me).

A well-earned rest after all the adventure and the short night's sleep.

All's well that ends in a good gallop...

Oh, and if anyone is wondering which book I took with me to read on this trip, you can find out here.
